Aislinn knows that no one in the village is better with a bow than she is. So she finds it ridiculous when she is left behind as they begin their efforts to sweep the dark forest clean of the evil creatures that have been preying on the members of her village and stealing their children. All because she is a woman. As soon as she can, she sneaks away with her bow and arrows to join them. But when she comes across a pack of trolls, she soon is captured. Now she is alone with a troll, and it's clear that eating her isn't the only thing that's on his mind.


Excerpt:
The troll stood over seven feet tall, his dark grey-green skin as hard as steel. His eyes were yellow, set within a large melon-shaped head and above a mouth filled with teeth that were as sharp as daggers. He was solid muscle as well, from calf to neck, muscles which rippled with every slow, careful step he took. He would pause, lifting his slitted nostrils to the air, and she would hear his sniff sniff as he scented around for prey or enemies. She held her breath, hoping she was downwind of the beast.

The goddess of luck was apparently not with her in this foul, wretched place. His eyes turned in her direction, and he stalked slowly towards the thicket into which she now pushed herself, taking care not to stir the branches. "Not that it matters," she muttered. She knew the game was almost up, and she took careful aim at the massive creature as he approached.
