　「イエスは、モーセおよびすべての預言者から始めて、聖書全体の中で、ご自分について書いてある事がらを彼らに説き明かされた」(ルカ24:27)

　イエスは、ご自分がメシア(救い主、キリスト)であることを弟子たちに教える時に「理屈はいいからとにかくわたしを信じなさい」とは言いませんでした。上記の聖書箇所は、イエスが復活の直後に弟子たちに姿を現して語ったことばです。この箇所にあるように、イエスはご自分がメシアであることを旧約聖書の解き明かしを通して示されました(当時はまだ新約聖書がなかったので、上記箇所の「聖書」は旧約聖書を指しています)。

　本書のアプローチも、イエスが弟子たちを教えた方法と同じです。旧約聖書には、メシアが来ることを預言した数々の「メシア預言」があります。本書は、このメシア預言を一つ一つ調べていくことで、旧約聖書が預言していたメシアはただ一人、イエス・キリストしかいないことをあらゆる角度から示します。

　本書の特徴は、ユダヤ的視点で聖書を解説していることです。聖書は、旧約も新約も、ユダヤ人の手によって、ユダヤ文化の中で書かれました。そのため、聖書を読む中で、ユダヤ的背景を知っていなければ正しく理解できない部分が出てきます。フルクテンバウム博士は、代々ユダヤ教のラビの家系に生まれたユダヤ人で、メシアニック・ジュー(イエスを信じるユダヤ人)の神学者です。その博士が、ユダヤ的な背景知識を通して、解釈が難しく論争の多い聖書箇所の意味を明快に解き明かしていきます。本書を通して、ユダヤ的背景を知れば聖書は難しい書物ではないことを実感していただけると思います。

付録1　神の子ら
　「神の子らは、人の娘たちが、いかにも美しいのを見て、その中から好きな者を選んで、自分たちの妻とした」(創世記6:2)。この不思議な聖句を理解する鍵は、「神の子ら」という言葉の解釈が握っています。ここで旧約聖書が一貫して採用している用法に基づいて「神の子ら」を解釈すれば、この聖句は驚くべき内容を啓示していることがわかります。

付録2　なぜメシアは死ぬ必要があったのか

付録5　新約聖書は旧約聖書をどのように引用しているか
　新約聖書には、文脈からあまりにも外れている(と思える)旧約聖書の引用があります。それを一部の人たちは「聖霊に導かれた」聖書解釈だと言い、現代のクリスチャンも聖霊によってそのような「霊的解釈」に導かれることがある、と主張します。果たしてそうでしょうか。このバイブルスタディでは、新約聖書が旧約聖書を引用する際に例外なく適用される原則を明らかにします。

付録6　イスカリオテのユダの死
