About the Author
Deborah Rogers is a writer and fan of all good suspense, mystery and true crime books. She has a Graduate Diploma in Scriptwriting, and graduated cum laude from the Hagley Writers' Institute. When she's not writing American psychological thrillers, she likes to take her chocolate Labrador for walks on the beach and make decadent desserts.

The Devil's Wire is Deborah's debut novel. She is currently working on her second psychological thriller.

Q & A

How long have you been writing?
The Devil's Wire is my debut novel in the crime fiction genre but I've been writing literary fiction for many years, including short stories. The first thing I ever remember writing was a story about Kunta Kinte when I was ten. The story was a finalist in a competition and I had to read it out loud in school assembly. It was a terrifying experience. Since then I've written non-fiction, fiction, poetry and dabbled in scriptwriting (for both radio and film).

What books do you like?
You can't beat curling up by the fire with a great psychological thriller. I've always had a weird fascination with murder and crime so I tend to go for darker stuff. There are the big hitters in the psychological thriller genre like Gone Girl and Girl on the Train. I also like books that include a memorable female protagonist. In my teens I was a big reader of Jonathon Kellerman, Sidney Sheldon, Jackie Collins, Mary Higgins Clark and Ed McBain (I adored his stories about vigilante justice).

What do you watch?
I watch way too many true crime documentaries. Stupidly I tend to watch them at night, right before I go to sleep, which means I often have nightmares about murder. I love Dateline and 48 Hours, but my absolute favorite is I Survived. It's the most amazing, heart-wrenching series I have ever seen. Essentially, the show is a platform for survivors of horrendous crimes to share their stories in their own words. Each story unfolds like a real life psychological thriller and I'm continuously astounded at just how strong and resilient and courageous these survivors are.

What are three interesting facts about you?
1. I went to law school to become a criminal lawyer but after being admitted to the bar I became a senior investigator in anti-trust law.
2. Although my books are based in the United States, I grew up in Hong Kong and live in New Zealand.
3. I love to travel and recently went on a trip to Europe with my sister. We ate too many French pastries and walked up the Eiffel tower on a spectacular spring morning.
