Vielfach ist neben einer unausweichlichen Modernisierung aber auch eine Wiederbelebung immer w„hrender, oft in Vergessenheit geratener Werte, wie gesunder Umwelt und sozial ausgewogener Lebensumgebung, zu erkennen. Das in dieser Diplomarbeit beschriebene Gartenstadtmodell wurde vor 100 Jahren vom Engl„nder EBENEZER HOWARD als Ideal zur Realisierung naturnaher und sozial vertr„glicher Wohnbedingungen konzipiert. Dieses Modell sollte aufbauend auf der Wechselwirkung zwischen dem sozialen Gesellschaftsgef?ge und der Physiognomie einer urbanen Siedlungsform die Grundlage f?r sozialreformerische Stadtplanung bilden. Wenngleich einige der urspr?nglichen Gedanken HOWARDS verloren gingen, so hat dieses Stadtkonzept doch seinen Einfluss bis in die Gegenwart aufrechterhalten. F?r mich als Geographen bietet sich mit der Behandlung dieses humangeographischen Themas die M”glichkeit, eine wissenschaftliche Br?ckenfunktion zwischen den Disziplinen der Human- und Physiogeographie, der Architektur, der Soziologie und der Geschichte einzunehmen. Architektonisches Verst„ndnis, gesellschaftssoziale Einflussanalyse und historisches Hintergrundwissen bilden die Grundlagen um humangeographische und raumbezogene Auswirkungen des Gartenstadtmodells korrekt interpretieren zu k”nnen. Die vorliegende Diplomarbeit behandelt im Wesentlichen die historischen Hintergr?nde der Gartenstadtbewegung, das vom Engl„nder EBENEZER HOWARD entworfene Gartenstadtkonzept sowie dessen Entwicklung bis in die Gegenwart. Dabei sollte vor allem der aktuelle Stand der realisierten Gartenstadtprojekte bzw. der vom Gartenstadtkonzept beeinflussten Anlagen mit den urspr?nglich geplanten Zielen verglichen werden.
